SCIENCE
Mariposa’s Life Science Program is offered to students in grades 4th – 6th with each student receiving a minimum of four lessons per year. During these lessons, the students are exposed to many areas of science including biology, anatomy, physiology, etc. In addition to learning about these topics, the students develop skills in dissection, microscopes and the scientific method.
MUSIC
Music Program provides the students in TK-1st with voice lessons and the 2nd-6th graders with piano lessons. The students receive on average one lesson per week. In order to achieve this, Mariposa’s PTO sourced and maintains a piano lab with 36 keyboards and the technology needed for the Music teacher to listen to each student individually to provide instruction. The program culminates to an end of year Patriotic Day performance held at the end of May.

STEAM
In the 2019-2020 academic year, Mariposa envisioned the creation of a dedicated STEAM Lab which would provide the students a unique opportunity to stimulate their brains through dynamic learning experiences. Our STEAM Lab offers students opportunities in robotics, video editing, stop motion photography, maker space challenges, engineering, and more. The STEAM Lab space was funded primarily by Mariposa’s PTO and the Brea Education Foundation.
ART
The Art Program at Mariposa provides each student with a minimum of one art class per month that is integrated into their grade level curriculum at the discretion of their teacher. The students explore different mediums of art including but not limited to charcoal, pastels, painting, and drawing. In addition to gaining exposure to various artistic techniques, the students also learn about artists that specialize in the technique that they are exploring

Robotics
Mariposa’s PTO has provided funding for the creation of the Vex Robotics Club at Mariposa. This afterschool club is available to students in 4th – 6th grade. These students learn to create and build robots on their own while building on their skill to be able to compete in area robotics competitions.
